Heidolph Hotplates

Can I connect my Hei-PLATE hotplate to AVA Lab Control Software?

Hei-PLATE Mix ‘n’ Heat Ultimate can be connected using RS232 and controlled with AVA Lab Control Software.

What is the accuracy of hotplate temperature control?

Hei-PLATE hotplate temperature is set in 1°C intervals. With a Pt1000 probe, measurement resolution is 0.1°C. Measurement accuracy is ±0.2°C plus the tolerance of the Pt1000. Final measurement accuracy scales linearly from ±0.2 K at 25°C to ±0.75°C at 300°C, then up to ±2.05°C at 350°C.

Which diameters are available for hotplates?

All Hei-PLATE hotplate models are available with a hotplate diameter of 145 mm as standard, or 135 mm on request. 145 mm gives more surface area and fits perfectly with the 145 mm recess on Heat-On blocks and Cool-It Bowls (although these accessories can still be used with 135 mm hotplates). Our Greenhouse, Tornado, Carousel 6 Plus and Carousel 12 Plus reaction stations have a 135 mm recess, so require a 135 mm hotplate.

Which temperature probe do I need, EKT or Pt1000?

EKT and Pt1000 are optional temperature probes that allow your hotplate to precisely heat your reaction to the target temperature. EKT (509-88000-00) is a legacy temperature probe which includes a control unit. This is required for magnetic stirrers which do not have built-in control units that interface with modern Pt1000 (509-67910-00) external probes. If your hotplate has a rear port for 5 pins, it requires EKT. If the port has holes for 4 pins, it requires Pt1000. For units delivered after September 2023, Hei-PLATE Mix ‘n’ Heat Core requires EKT, and all other models (Core+, Expert, and Ultimate) require Pt1000.

What is the maximum temperature I can achieve with Heidolph magnetic stirrers?

Hei-PLATE Mix ‘n’ Heat Expert and Ultimate have a maximum set temperature of 350°C. All other Heidolph hotplate have a maximum set temperature of 300°C. The actual max temperature is defined by safety ΔT, which is the value by which measured temperature (either internal hotplate or external probe) is allowed to exceed the setpoint during heating, before the heating process is cancelled and error code E23 is displayed. On Hei-PLATE Mix ‘n’ Heat Expert and Ultimate this can be adjusted to a maximum of 25°C, allowing for maximum displayed temperature of 375°C. On most other hotplate this value is 15°C, allowing for maximum displayed temperature of 315°C. When using Heat-On blocks to heat round bottom flasks of vials, all blocks can be heated to 200°C without damage. Polymer-coated blocks can be heated to 260°C, though prolonged use may lead to coating degradation. Some users use anodised Heat-On blocks up to 350°C, though this leads to discolouration (no impact on performance).
